Student Poem of the Month — September 2007

The End of the Game   © by   Lucy Dempsey

10 minutes left

I dribble down the field
I am driven back
2-0
My hands are clenched
My legs frozen

7 minutes left

My stomach churns
I get a pass
Take it to the goal
Shoot
Score
2-1

5 minutes

I’m too tense
Can’t move
Fight to stay on

2 minutes

I close my eyes
I open them
I take a breath

1 minute

I get the ball
And go to goal
2-2
I relax
We will win
I know
But then...

0 minutes left
