Student Poem of the Month — February 2007

Forgotten...Gone   © by   Casey Lee Oliver

A tiny heart shudders,
whispering to any who choose to hear.
Uneven sound, her shuddering...
calling out with silent fears.

Somewhere a child cries,
forgotten, alone and afraid to sleep,
haunted by the screams of uncaring parents;
(Liars...)
Her cries: soft but sorrowful...no one listens.

She wails for her family,
one that knows not how to care.
Her eyes holding secrets only she can feel.

A tiny heart shudders,
in this cold, distant world.
Fighting to hold on, slowly giving in;
tears glisten on her cheeks; there's nothing left.
Her last breath is taken,
                      as she makes her decision--

she doesn't want to be here any more...
