Student Poem of the Month — May 2006

Rhapsody   © by   Barrie Humphries

                  Inspired by Archibald J. Motley’s “Blues”

Stan on the trumpet and Billy on sax;
Come roll with me baby, throw me your smile.
Let the jazz flow through you, don’t let it tax.
Come swing, step, shake! Come dance with me a while.
When you tire, I’ll lead you by the hand
To the bar for a drink. You talk; just go
With those red ribbon lips and teeth so grand—
Your face holds the secrets I long to know.
That floor calls us back—Let’s show ‘em how!
Your hand on my shoulder; Mine on your small.
We jitter-bug, swing, twist, Charleston now.
Wild girl, I see you will make me fall.
Until I see you on Saturday night,
I dream of your dancing feet—smooth and light.
