Student Poem of the Month — September 2005

Window Seat at the City Bakery
© by   Annalee Kwochka

Have you ever watched
A single leaf
                           Float
                  To
                            the
                                      ground?
Details
A dandelion seed climb to the heavens?
Details
While the world is whirling round you
A hurricane of color
Have you ever seen
The way the leaves
                                    shudder?
And those leaves are part of a tree
That is one of a whirlwind of trees
Creating oxygen
To bear life                   forward
Details
Then there’s me, a tree loving tomboy
Who dreams of peace,
Sitting somewhere on this planet
This continent, this country
This city, this street
This seat by the window
Breathing
