My name is Mary
I’m only seven
Why am I so ugly
Maybe if I was beautiful
I would not have this bruise on my cheek
And a black eye

I hear her pull in the driveway
I get scared
I pull the covers over my head
I hear vulgar language
I hear my name called
I can tell she is drunk
She has probably been at Moe’s again

My name is Mary
I’m only seven
I thought about not going out there

But what might happen if I don’t
I went out there
It was the worst mistake
I’d ever make

I’m in the ambulance
On my way to the hospital
I’m bleeding
Bad
I’ve got a hole in my belly
She did it
Last night was the last time
I’d ever have to see her

Last night I died
She killed me
My name is Mary
I’m only seven
