Unrequited Love   © by   Tiffany Albright

I never knew you, but I knew the sweet smile,
Soft skin, deep eyes—I always loved your eyes.
Like Earthbound stars…Did I ever tell you?
I loved the dark curls that encircle an angel’s face,
Though you’d never admit it—I won’t breathe a word.
Did you know that I’d always loved your hands?
Their simple elegance—is it wrong to think of hands as elegant?
Your movements, always so graceful, no matter what.
A smile always charmed from my lips to simply
            watch you breathing.
I’m going insane!—the slightest hint of your presence
Is enough to move me to eternal joy
That never seems to last when you’re gone for too long.
You’re always gone for too long; any distance is too far;
All words too few and short. A glimpse brings all back.
Was in love, am still in love. Unrequited.
            Joyously disheartening.
I won’t say—too sweet is it to dream of you not saying, too.
Dream. Sweet. Love.
