Student Poem of the Month — December 2003

Winter   © by   Kelsey Jackson

Trees once dressed in shades of green
Now have beauty barely seen
Unused chimneys now spout smoke
And Christmas lights make festive folk
Birds that sang and nested here
Head south in Vs without a fear
Bikes have all been put away
Sleds pulled out awaiting play
No longer is the sun as strong
No longer are the days as long
Now people put on hats and gloves
And warm hot chocolate on their stoves
It happens only once a year—
Summer’s gone and winter’s here.
