Student Poem of the Month — August 2003

Summer   © by   Elizabeth Carpenter

In the summer there is no school,
water fights and trips to the pool.
Leave your textbooks behind you,
you can do anything you want to do.
You can go on hikes and then camp out,
or just sit around and yell and shout.
You can hop on your bike to get an ice cream,
or if you want, lay in a hammock and dream.
Every morning you can sleep in late,
or if you want to get up early you don’t have to wait.
Throw away your alarm clock,
untie your boat from the dock.
Set sail across the lake,
lie on the deck while in the sun you bake.
Summer time is really the best,
but school will start soon so you better get your rest.
