Student Poem of the Month — July 2002

Invitation to a Dance   © by   Susan Amanda Lucas

With my words and my lines,
I invite you,
come dance with me.
Words that flow with rhythm,
lines that set the pace,
come dance with me.
Let’s tango in the sestina,
let’s waltz through the sonnet,
come dance with me.
Words that spell your name,
lines that move your body,
come dance with me.
Below the centered title,
within the images of life,
come dance with me.
I will move you,
put you under my control,
come dance with me.
I, the instructor, plan the melody,
you, the student, join the harmony,
come dance with me.
Now, the beat infects you,
and, you nod your head.
Yes, come dance with me.
