My Special Place   ©

by   Sara Simpson

I lie silently under a tree
And gaze at the mass of red leaves.
The trees branches sway,
As if telling me to be drawn deeper into their beauty.
Yellow shafts of sunlight peep
Through the frenzy of twisted branches.
Acorns pitter-patter as they hit
The cushion of leaves.
The scent of daffodils and roses
From my mother’s garden
Surrounds me,
An ant begins to climb
The omnipotent tree trunk, gathering what
Food it can find.
A cricket and a robin sing their
Songs in harmony.
Slowly, as night reveals itself,
Stars shine their light on the world.
The moon looks like a humongous
Beach ball, ready for play
Night critters awake from their
Deep sleep, to come out and wander.
I slowly get up,
The leaves make crinkling sounds,
Fragile to the touch.
As I walk up the hill,
Leaving behind nature’s masterpiece
