Student Poem of the Month — January 2008

I Am   © by   Kelsi Parham

I am a daughter born from a peacemaker.
I wonder if he will make it.
I hear him on the phone when he calls me.
I want him to get the war over with and come home to me.
I am a daughter born from a peacemaker.

I pretend that he is still here with me even though he’s in Iraq.
I feel very sad when my daddy left.
I touch the stuff that he sent me.
I worry if he’s going to get hurt or not be safe.
I cry when he leaves.
I am a daughter born from a peacemaker.

I understand that he might not make it.
I say “I wish he will come back.”
I dream of him coming home to me.
I try not to cry when I remember him.
I hope that he will come back to me.
I am a daughter born from a peacemaker.
