In an infant's
open-armed embrace
I   blurs into   not-I

and no question of justice arises
only chance mercies
a full breast.

In this predacious universe
corn is not outraged by locust
plankton by whale, light by black hole

but we
--until our eyes grow soft enough
to dissolve barriers again--

draw boundaries
cement bonds
search for justice

while crows rise
from a sunlit field of wheat
like sparks from a fire.
