There came a day
in our travel
across Texas
up & down & around & over
The Hill Country, when
turning left the radio emitted
cowboy blues, to the right

-- a mariachi band

With each turn
of the steering wheel
our musical loyalties
were twisted.

There’s a lesson there somewhere
but we didn’t search for it then.

We just laughed.
