1878: Daniels Memorial United Methodist church had its beginnings in a little white house located on what is now Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. A family by the name of Hinson began having people meet for prayer and worship. The first services were held by a local preacher or "circuit rider."
1883: Deed for Daniels Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church was recorded March 20. It was located on land given by William Daniels. First preacher, B. B. Holder.
1913: Mrs. Mary Herring Daniels organized the first Epworth League, serving as its President for 3 years.
1925: The first Missionary Society was organized.
1940: The name Missionary Society was changed to Women’s Society of Christian Service.
1942: Seymour Johnson Air Force Base purchased property where church stood. Two lots were purchased from M. E. Ham and wife in June. Church was moved to present location without missing a service.
1945: Renovation and enlargement of the church, increasing its value to $15,000. Dedication held October 28th.
1948: Church became a full-time station. Rev. C. W. Goldston, pastor. Land for parsonage donated by Ben W. Daniels, Sr.
1950: Parsonage completed and dedicated on August 27th at a cost of $13,539. Ben F. Adams gave an additional lot behind the church.
1954: Methodist Men’s Club organized. Charter signed September 10th.
1956: Ground breaking held for new Educational Building September 24th. U.S. Government relocated church burial grounds off the Base to present location on N.C. Hwy. 111.
1959: Dedication on December 13th for the "Mable G. Daniels Memorial Educational Building" at a cost of $52,000.
1970: Name of church was changed to Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church and Methodist Youth Fellowship to United Methodist Youth Fellowship. Women’s Society of Christian Service was changed to United Methodist Women.
1973: Parsonage renovation begun. Central air conditioning installed and grounds landscaped.
1977: Sanctuary completely renovated at a cost of $116,000 - paid in full October 2nd.
1981: Parsonage renovation completed December 31st at a cost of: Building $39,130; Furnishings $6,066.
1982: Stained glass windows at the church covered with Lexan™ for protection $3,570.
1983 - 1984: Bicentennial Celebration.
1988: New Methodist hymnals given to church by members.
1989: A new Allen organ was purchased. The organ and piano pit was raised.
1990: Property adjoining church purchased for $50,000.
1991: United Methodist Men purchased a new lighted sign for the front yard. The Afternoon Circle of the United Methodist Women purchased a Processional cross.
1993: Picnic Shelter built next to the Scout Hut.
1994: "Ark" playground equipment built by men of the church.
1996: New Fellowship Hall built with renovations to the educational building. 25 tables and 200 chairs given in honor of Earl and Marie Herring.
1997: Re-roofed the Sanctuary. Two Funeral Palls given by Ottis and Mae Freeman.
1998: Sundial, yard benches, and silver bud vase given in memory of Ludie Thompson. Ceiling fans and lights for picnic shelter given by Jack Caudill. Hurricane globes & candlesticks given by Night Circle. Library shelves given by Ottis and Mae Freeman. Eagle mural installed in Senior Adult Sunday School classroom. Bird houses placed in church yard by Leo and Maxine Summerlin with Daniel Chewning.
1999: Photo of "Jesus With The Little Children" given by Girl Scouts in Memory of Irma Blann. New sign for church front yard installed.
2000: Parking lot paved!
